• What is the Indian Penal Code [IPC]?
Answer :- The Indian Penal Code gives the definition of crimes committed by any citizen of India inside India. It also tells what the punishment will be for committing the crime simultaneously.
This Code does not apply to the Indian Army.
The Indian Penal Code came into force in the year 1860 during the British period.

# About all the sections of the Indian Penal Code

Section 1 of IPC
As per Section 1, this Act shall be called the Indian Penal Code and shall extend to 28 States and 8 Union Territories of India. Means this law will apply to the whole of India from Laxmir to Kanyakumari.

Section 2 of IPC
According to Section 2, if an Indian commits a crime in any part of India, he will be charged under the IPC and will have to face the same punishment.
It will depend on the court whether it finds the accused guilty or not.

Section 3 of IPC
  Section 3 deals with criminal cases committed outside India, but triable in accordance with the law in India and a sentence has to be decided thereon. According to the definition of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), a person who has committed an offense outside India and is liable to be tried in accordance with any Indian law, such case shall be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of section 3 IPC exactly as if the offense had been committed within India.

Section 140 of IPC
Section 140 is imposed if a person illegally keeps arms. There can be a punishment of up to 2 years.

Section 295 of IPC
If a person insults a religious place or damages a religious place, then section 295 is imposed on him. It can be punished with imprisonment of up to 2 years and fine.

IPC section 420
If a person cheats or commits fraud etc., then section 420 is imposed on him. There can be a punishment of up to 7 years.

Section 489B of IPC
Section 489B is imposed on a person who knowingly tries to pass a counterfeit note. The punishment can be up to 10 years and fine.

IPC Section 509
Section 509 is imposed on a person who points or harasses a woman by speaking. There can be a punishment of up to 1 year and a fine.

Section 510 of IPC
Section 510 is imposed on a person who creates ruckus after drinking alcohol in a public place. There can be a punishment of 24 hours in this.
